Exploring Mull

The Isle of Mull is a unique and stunning island to explore but with 300 miles of coastline, wild hills and mountains, extensive forest and fabulous wildlife. If your time is limited, then we can help you by providing you with some ideas as to how best to focus your time. Mull An Island – a very special place

The North half of the island,has relatively low hills and remote northern coastline exposed to the Atlantic ocean with sheltered sea lochs, extensive forests, the beautiful painted town of Tobermory and ancient village of Dervaig. Enjoy the stunning drive along the spectacular West coast towards the Ross Of Mull on the way enjoying spectacular the views to the Treshnish Isles, even to Tiree and Coll on a clear day, or just stop at the fantastic white sands of Calgary Beach.

The South half of the island has high rugged mountains, with the chisel face of Ben Mor towering high above the sea lochs and the long wild peninsula of the Ross of Mull leading down to Fionnphort and the magical island of Iona. Enjoy the spectacular cliffs at Carsaig, take the 'scenic' road around the shores of Loch Scridain and Loch na Keal, or just seek peace and total tranquillity at Croggan and Loch Buie.

Four Seasons in a Day!

Mull is the place where you can see 'Four Seasons in One Day' and with such wild and varied weather streaming in off the Atlantic Ocean; there are certainly exciting possibilities for unique and very different adventures to be found. This variety of climate and the unique landscapes, (some of the oldest rocks in the World can be found here) makes the Island such a wonderful and magical place to experience. All year around it will always be a special place for those who wish to see our resident eagles, otters, deer, seals, and at specific times of year the many other species for whom Mull is a safe haven on the migratory trail. You will have to spend all four seasons here to see how our wonderful wildlife behaves and interacts to survive, with each coming trend of year.

And if Mull itself isn't enough then of course there is the beautiful island of Iona, famous for the Christian settlement founded by St Columba in the 6th century and now the home of the world renowned Iona Community, who's home is in the now renovated Iona Abbey. Explore the ruins of the ancient nunnery, walk where the great kings of the Western Isles chose as their last resting place or hike across the island to the Bay with it's back to the Ocean and a very unique golf course, or just enjoy lazing on one of the many stunning white shell sand beaches.

There are a variety of boat excursions from Fionnphort, all of which will give you an experience to savor. Whether it is sailing on a traditional sailing boat around Iona or taking one of the regular launches out to see the spectacular geology of the basalt columns on Staffa and Fingal's Cave. Some smaller boats may take you to Ulva to walk the many trails. If you are fortunate enough to be here in the late spring/early summer the Puffins and Pufflings will delight everyone to smiles and tears. Minke whale, orca, sunfish and basking shark can often be seen between the islands and of course the inevitable pod of dolphin or porpoise.

Fishing, cycling and hill walking offers some of the best of these sports in locations which rival the rest of the world for their beauty, peaceful surroundings and glorious vistas.
